Building Energy Benchmarking Program

This pilot program improves building energy efficiency, and contributes to significant energy savings and greenhouse gas reduction by providing owners with information about their building. Participants will benefit from technical support, customized building benchmarking reports, tenant education workshops and access to financial incentives ($1,500 per building) to help offset the cost of an energy audit.

Funding Available – One-time rebate of up to $5,000 per eligible building (visit website for eligibility criteria) and an additional $5,000 for those who complete the submission process by November 30, 2018.

Eligibility – All owners and operators of buildings (over 20,000 square feet) in Edmonton. Can be anyone, but the building owner or operator must comply to participation.

Energy Efficiency Alberta

Business Energy Savings Program

This program offers incentives to businesses, non-profits and institutional organizations to encourage them to choose high-efficiency products. Once an organization has installed an approved high-efficiency heating or lighting product, it can apply for the rebate to help cover the cost of the equipment.

Funding Available – Incentives of up to $25,000 per facility (or $100,000 for parent companies) per year, are available to help cover the cost of the equipment.

Eligibility – All business, non-profit and institutional facilities serviced by an Alberta electric utility are eligible, except for new construction projects, federal and provincially owned buildings, facilities with over 10,000 tonnes of annual GHG emissions and large final emitters—as defined under Alberta’s Carbon Competitiveness Incentive Regulation.

Custom Energy Solutions Program

This program helps large facilities improve productivity, save energy and save money by upgrading old, inefficient equipment and making other energy improvements. Account managers will work directly with industrial customers to identify their specific goals and needs. The program offers end-to-end support and incentives to implement the most cost-effective enhancements in participants’ facilities.

Funding Available – Individual facilities with over 10,000 tonnes of annual GHG emissions are eligible for incentives up to $1 million per year and parent facilities implementing Custom Energy Solutions projects in multiple facilities are eligible for incentives up to $2 million per year. Facilities with less than 10,000 tonnes are eligible for incentives up to $250,000 per year for individual facilities and $500,000 per year for parent facilities.

Eligibility – Industrial, institutional, and commercial customers with facilities operating within the Province of Alberta. Facilities defined as Large Final Emitters or customers or facilities that have opted into the Carbon Competitiveness Incentive Regulation are not eligible. There is no minimum threshold for greenhouse gas emissions but those facilities emitting 10,000 tonnes or more of greenhouse gases annually will be eligible for higher incentives for certain offers (visit website for an in-depth eligibility criteria).

Residential and Commercial Solar Program

The Residential and Commercial Solar Program offers incentives to homeowners, businesses and non-profits that wish to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

Funding Available – Maximum payable incentive for commercial buildings: The lesser of $1,000,000 or 35% of eligible system costs.
